Siena, Italy

While staying in Florence, a spontaneous day trip to Siena seemed in order before heading to Venice early the next day. It turned out to be a great decision as Siena was a nice, medium-sized town that had a fun charm to it. The layout is interesting in that it does not necessarily follow a straight-line grid system - rather the streets almost arch around the Piazza del Campo, the town center square. The main tower of the square is the popular centerpiece of Siena itself. The real treasure of the tower, Palazzo Pubblico, is in the view it provides. The breathtaking lookout really shows the amazing mixture of orange clay rooftops and the lush green landscape that makes the area so enticing.
